Hi helpful people! Could you please help me again? I've tried solving it....
Initially I was downloading the driver for my HP webcam, but then the disk had other options--one being DirectX, which I had to google. The information that I found warned against installing an earlier version, for whatever reason, so then I went to see what was already on this new-to-me used Toshiba Satellite, which ended up being their 9.0c version. However, I cannot figure out through install wizard for the webcam which version I would be downloading. So, basically I am wondering at this point if I even need to install it. And while I was being introduced to this whole concept I decided to try and figure out why the audio is not working on my computer. I went into my audio properties and made sure that none of the devises' items were muted. I also tested the sound through the DirectX diagnostics tool and it said that no problems were found. Then I went into my device manager and got lost! HAHAHA! So, I still have no idea how to get sound to come out of my laptop. Thanks in advance! Device Manager
Keep a look out for any yellow exclamation marks and red X's, or something like that. This identifies that there could be a problem and by right clicking the device and selecting properties, will give you a hint as to what the problem is. Device Manager isn't so confusing really  Webcam Do you have to install the DirectX in the webcam driver's setup wizard? I've never seen that before. If you're able to find out how new the driver is and if it's newer than, say, November 2006, it should be okay to install it as that was when Direct X 10 was released. Or round-about that time. The only way I can think of doing this, if the driver didn't come with a folder that included a readme file would be to look at the driver versions release notes. But I doubt it would do any real harm to your machine, so just update Direct X from the Microsoft website after installing the driver and you should be okay. Okay, I will see if I have the latest version of the driver, thanks! I went further into device manager and under "sound, video, and game controllers" there are drivers/devices that I cannot enable. The only one I can is "Realtek AC97 Audio." I also have a Realtek Fast Internet Adapter Driver" in the programs list from he start menu. I tried Googling to get more information but am again at a standstill. Realtek Fast Internet Adapter sounds like something to do with an internet controller inside the laptop. Wireless, LAN or modem device maybe?
What devices and why are you not able to enable them? Does it give you any type of information as to why? By the way, what Toshiba Satellite are you using? I have used a few Satellites over the last few months so I may be able to help a bit more concerning this webcam, or the audio devices. -------------------- See above for my post... According to your profile you are using Windows XP. Windows XP should only run DirectX 9.0c, not DirectX 10. Sound Make sure that you don't have any hardware volume controls that are turned down to zero. --------------------   Doraemon - the robot cat from the future. |
